Expo will connect Central Coast community with volunteers
Organisations from across the Central Coast will be showcased and promote their volunteer programs, when they take part in the UON Central Coast Volunteering Expo.
Volunteering Central Coast and Community Care Services Central Coast are some of the local organisation that will set up stalls at the Volunteering Expo, to be held at the University of Newcastle’s (UON) Ourimbah campus, from 11am to 1pm on Wednesday 9 October 2013.
The expo is an opportunity to find out about the range of different volunteering programs that require the support of committed people of all ages, to help to make a difference to the Central Coast community.
Support groups and charities such as Meals on Wheels, Hammond Care, the House with No Steps, Community Compass, the Cancer Council, Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service, the Smith Family and the St Vincent de Paul Society will also set up displays at the expo.
Information will also be available on a new trend in volunteering – time banking, where people give their time and then are ‘paid back’ through a contribution of another volunteer.
Representatives from timebanking.com.au and Volunteering Central Coast will be at hand to answer any questions and to sign up participants. Central Coast students who participate in the University of Newcastle’s International Leaders Experience and Development Program (iLead), which aims at giving domestic and international students a greater understanding of how they can have a positive impact on the communities of which they are part, will also be at the expo.
