The International Space Time Concerto Competition concert series consists of two unique events in Newcastle on Friday 30th November and Sunday 2nd December. The competition itself has become a globally recognised and highly innovative new venture celebrating musical virtuosity, collaboration and cutting edge creativity.
The International Space Time Concerto Competition is all about highlighting how traditional forms of music-making can be modernised while still upholding the integrity of classical compositions.
“The calibre of talent for the competition was most impressive; it was difficult for us to narrow it down to just a few finalists. We are excited to see how the selected finalists will translate on stage at the concerts later this year,” says Professor Richard Vella, Chair and Professor of Music at the University of Newcastle.
The first concert Around the World in 80 Milliseconds to be held on Friday the 30th of November at the Newcastle Conservatorium of Music will feature performers in five global locations simultaneously creating one extraordinary event. The Newcastle Conservatorium (Australia) connects with Ars Electronica and Bruckner University (Austria), the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (Singapore) and Central Conservatory of Music (China) live in real time.
Revolutionary in its structure, audience members will enjoy a musical feast, from pipe organ and string orchestras to an iPhone ensemble.
On December 2nd History Meets Innovation will be held at the University of Newcastle’s Harold Lobb Concert Hall. History and innovation combine to challenge musical tradition and propel the concerto form into the 21st century. Virtuoso performances on piano, trombone and violin (accompanied by a full symphony orchestra) of music from Romantic and 20th Century concertos mix with new compositions involving light sculptures, video projections and jazz improvisation.
The brainchild of the University of Newcastle, the initiative is a creative collaboration with the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music in Singapore, Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, Waikato University in New Zealand and Ars Electronica in Austria.
Don’t miss out on this once in a lifetime opportunity to see some of Australia’s most talented performers in a unique and rare space.
Tickets are on sale for $35 + booking fee through Ticketek.
