Darby Street Set to Come Alive After Five
From Friday 11 October Darby Street will be open late night for 'Friday After Five'. The street will come alive with street entertainment and Darby Street's rich shopping offerings available until 8pm.
Darby Street traders responded to feedback from last year's Twilight Bohemia Festival, praising the energy of the 'strip' at night, by starting a campaign of Friday Night late opening on a regular basis.
The traders are partnering with the Newcastle Art Gallery, currently showing the Darnell Collection of After Five Fashion. Visitors will be able to put together their own collection, with fashion stores opening on Fridays until 8 pm.
"It just seemed a natural fit, and a great way to link the Gallery, the cafes, the fashion boutiques and all the loveable owner operated traders in Darby Street and its surrounding village," said Kevin Coffey, chairman of the Darby Street Advisory Group of Newcastle NOW.
'Friday After Five' starts on October 11 and will run through the Christmas and Holiday season with a suite of in-store and restaurant promotions with entertainment by specially selected buskers scattered along Darby Street.
