From 7 - 9 February the University of Newcastle will be hosting the Australasian Humour Studies Network (AHSN) conference at its City Campus, University House.
The convenors of the conference, Conjoint Professor Michael Ewans of the Faculty of Education and Arts and Mr Michael Meany of the Faculty of Science and IT, said that the conference has attracted delegates from a diverse range of disciplines.
"This year we have presentations from people studying humour from many disciplinary points of view. It is an area of research that attracts psychologists, sociologists, linguists, literary theorists - just to name a few," said Professor Ewans.
This, the nineteenth conference of the AHSN, has attracted over 50 national and international delegates to the region. The theme of this year's conference is humour and creativity.
"The theme of humour and creativity was purposefully selected to bring together as wide a range of delegates as possible. Also, it draws on the research being undertaken at the University of Newcastle by Dr Phillip McIntyre and others into the theory and practice of creativity," said Mr Meany.
The aim of the conference is to bring together experts, academics and practitioners to study humour as a cultural form and as a creative activity.
