Electrical engineering is a professional career that utilises mathematics, science, technology and problem solving skills to design, construct and maintain the products and services that underpin modern society. Electrical engineering is the major area of expertise behind control and automation, telecommunications, signal processing, analogue and digital electronics and power generation and distribution. It is also vital in new and emerging fields such as nano-technology, robotics and renewable energy.

Compulsory Program Requirements
Students have the opportunity to undertake an industry-related project in their final year of study and must also complete 12 weeks of industrial experience throughout the program. This program is accredited by Engineers Australia, and many other affiliated international organisations, through the Washington Accord. Students who successfully complete the Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) are eligible to apply for membership to Engineers Australia.
Academic Requirements for Program Completion
Total Units required
4 years full time or part time equivalent up to 10 years maximum.
International student visa holders who are studying the program on campus are required to enrol full time as per student visa requirements.
The electrical engineering program is a 4 year program comprising 320 units, in which students complete core courses in mathematics physics and general engineering, together with electrical engineering courses to gain hands-on experience and a theoretical introduction to electrical circuits and digital electronics. In third and fourth years students are able to select from a wide range of directed courses.
Any students wishing to undertake the program on a part-time basis are advised to contact the Program Convenor for advice on optimum selection of courses for part-time enrolment.

Complete 20 units of electives to fulfil the requirements of the program. Electives can be used to extend and complement your core studies with more courses in the same field of study, or from areas that might be of interest to you. Electives can be chosen from all courses available at the University that do not have any other conditions (such as a course requisite) applied to them.
Graduating with Honours The Faculty uses the Weighted Average Mark (WAM) as a measure for determining Honours in accordance with the Embedded Honours Models Structures Policy. Graded Honours is awarded on the basis of superior performance attained throughout the program and dissertation. Performance is based on a three year WAM where 2000, 3000 and 4000 level courses are weighted. There are three levels of Honours: *Honours Class 1 - you will require a minimum WAM of 77 and a minimum mark of 75 in the research component. *Honours Class II, Division 1 - you will require a minimum WAM of 72 and a minimum mark of 65 in the research component. *Honours Class II, Division 2 - you will require a minimum WAM of 67 and a minimum mark of 65 in the research component.
