Is international business for you?

This program is designed to meet the needs of students who want work-ready skills in a business that operates internationally. Our program caters for students currently employed in businesses that have a global perspective, as well as students whose career ambition is to work in international, multinational and global business enterprises. Managers in national firms require international business expertise, and this program is also designed for you.

The main strength of this program is our ability to provide you with a global mindset to apply to business management and practice. As the international business environment changes constantly, the study of international business is a dynamic and evolving field. Our ethos of research-led teaching across all courses ensures students are life-long learners who will seek further insights to increase their understanding of the challenges presented by the global economy.

This program will build and expand on your core knowledge of business operations in the context of international trade as well as the policy and institutional frameworks influencing the emerging global economy.

What you will study

The Master of International Business equips you with both the functional skills and the ‘soft’ skills to be a successful international manager. You will study how to manage and lead teams, contemporary principles of management and standards of critical reasoning and problem-solving. You will be a communicator, with the skills to operate effectively in the international business community, with cross-cultural sensitivity and awareness.

Study in international business provides you with the necessary knowledge and skills to develop strategies for the management and growth of international business organisations within a global economic framework.

You'll be exposed to a number of real-world projects that allow you to learn from business leaders in some of the world's fastest growing economies, and the current market situations and practices being used in global business operations.

Our staff

Our academics are full-time University staff members committed to creating a unique learning experience for our students. Staff members are active researchers in their areas and/or experienced consultants, and are able to use that expertise to enrich the learning experience of our students. The International Business Discipline in the Newcastle Business School, which includes two Professors of international standing, has a very strong international reputation for research and teaching.

All business is international. Graduates of the Master of International Business understand the complex dynamics of multinational firms and the global economic environment in which they operate. Our students will be able to conduct strategic analysis of business opportunities in an international context.

Graduates will also be able to comprehend how national and international economic, political, legal and commercial organisations and institutions impact upon multinational and domestic enterprises. Broad-based scholarship and an interdisciplinary approach to the study of international business ensures that you can aspire to careers in wide variety of organisations including multinational firms, domestic firms, non-government and not-for-profit organisations, educational institutes and international bodies, such as the World Bank and UN.
