Transcript Typist

The role of a Transcript typist is to record the spoken word of people in different contexts be it in parliament, courts of law or television broadcasts using a stenotype shorthand machine, computer or sound equipment. There are usually no tertiary requirements to become a transcript typist; however it is useful to complete a course in machine shorthand, with training on the specific procedures giving to you on the job.  Some settings like parliaments might require formal qualifications in English language with particular knowledge of gramma and linguistics. To be successful in this role you will need to have a very fast typing speed, good command of English, good attention to detail and be able to work under pressure in a fast paced environment.
