Career

Producer

Producers oversee all aspects of a television, film or stage performance; this may mean raising funds, organising budgets, sourcing potential scripts, organising distribution and any other necessary tasks involved in production. Producers also collaborate with directors to make creative decisions and may hire assistant producers to manage specific parts of the process.

While there is no formal route to becoming a producer, having studied in the arts and having thorough business and financial knowledge is useful. Producers also need to be good communicators who are skilled at networking and helping others understand their concepts and ideas. The entertainment industry is notoriously competitive and producing almost always requires extensive experience, self-motivation and the means to be self-employed.
