Pollution Management Officer

Pollution management officers coordinate investigations and monitoring programs to identify and control sources of pollution to air, waterways and soil. Pollution occurs when chemical substances such as sewerage, contaminated run off or factory emissions change the physical, chemical, biological or thermal properties of the element. The work can contribute to having clean water to drink and also involves air quality analyses and control. Another role stemming from pollution management can be Waste Management, and those in this position not only advise and guide business and industrial waste sites about waste management issues, but assist with the development, promotion and implementation of new waste disposal schemes.

At more senior levels, this position could require the extra responsibility of major budgets for waste and pollution management which can run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars.
