Mapping scientists provide high quality and precise geospatial information for use in the production on maps and determination of border and boundary properties. Professionals working in this field spend their time in the field using technical equipment and also in computer laboratories using specialist software to prepare new and assess existing maps. Knowledge of relevant title laws is also important in this field as professionals are often expected to advise and consult on related issues.

Employment opportunities exist in local, state and federal government agencies dealing with land titles, with developers and with mining and exploration companies. Post-graduate qualifications are usually not essential in this sector where work experience is highly regarded and dedicated graduate positions are often available.
