Industrial/Production Chemist

Industrial Chemists are responsible for the research, operation and development of chemical and process industries such as cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, food, mineral processing, paint, polymers, fertilisers and wine. Industrial chemists work to optimise complex chemical processes and are often solving problems at the cutting edge of environmental management in industry and essential services, such as water delivery and pollution treatment. Industrial and Production Chemistry involves researching, developing and improving the properties of products we use every day, through the selection of raw materials and the design of chemical processes and the conditions for production. They are able to take projects from inception as a research proposal, through product development and on to commercialisation and manufacture.

Industrial or Production Chemist can be found in a broad range of industries such as food, pharmaceuticals, polymers, chemicals, minerals and materials. They could be working in research and development for new manufacturing processes or environmental treatment.
