Dental Technician

Dental Technicians construct and repair dentures and other dental appliances. This can include crowns or bridges as well as tools and equipment, either in clinical or laboratory settings. Dental Technicians will create moulds of the patient’s mouths to create a variety of appliances and will usually work closely with dental practitioners in this role.  Areas of specialisation include

  • general prostheses: partial or full dentures are constructed to replace natural teeth
  • crown and bridge: restoration of teeth and fixtures in the patient’s mouth
  • maxilla-facial: prostheses to replace missing facial and body tissues
  • orthodontics: fixed or removable appliances

Dental Technicians also play an important role in dental laboratories both in research and development of tools and appliances. They will have a high degree of technical skill and work with a variety of materials for many different applications. Dental technicians work closely with dentists and Dental Prosthetists and will usually have little or no contact with patients.
