Data Mining Analyst

Data mining analysts use their statistical and mathematical expertise to search through large amounts of data to identify patterns and interpret their relevance. They usually work as part of a team who collect, analyse and archive information with particular aims and objectives, these may include but are not limited to:

  • The formation of financial strategies and profit projections in the business and financial sectors
  • Investigating fraud and other criminal activities for intelligence and law enforcement agencies
  • Computer programming and software design

Qualifications in mathematics and statistics, particularly at a post-graduate level, are usually necessary for data mining positions. Also important to many employers is the ability to utilise a variety of software tools and data management systems.
