Cultural Heritage Officer

Cultural heritage officers are experts on places and objects which have important cultural history and meaning. Their knowledge may advise the formation of policy and legislation relating to classification, conservation and management and may also be used to inform the allocation of funding, the development of projects and information and education resources for museums and galleries.

Professionals in this field may specialise in a particular area in which they complete research or post-graduate study though still require a thorough knowledge of environmental, indigenous and local issues. Cultural heritage officers require good communication skills which they use in consulting with experts but also in making recommendations and presentations to a variety of audiences.
