Science with Honours at the University of Newcastle

Science (Honours)

An Honours degree equips you with highly sought after and respected skills and knowledge, giving you a competitive advantage.

Studying the Bachelor of Science (Honours) gives you the opportunity to contribute to the development of knowledge in your field of interest by working one-on-one with an academic on their research.

Offered through the Faculty of Science and Information Technology, the Honours degree in science can be completed over one year of full-time study or part-time equivalent at our Newcastle (Callaghan) and Central Coast (Ourimbah) campuses.

A science Honours degree opens up a diverse range of employment opportunities in private industry and government organisations.

Depending on your specialisation, you could pursue a career in pathology, chemical analysis, product control development or research, telecommunications, fibre-optics, laser technology, medical physics, coal technology, organisational psychology, human resource management, research and data evaluation... and more.

An Honours degree can also lead to a research career in academia or elsewhere.

At the Newcastle campus, you can specialise in:

  • biological sciences
  • chemistry
  • earth science
  • geography and environmental studies
  • photonics
