Practical Experience


At the University of Newcastle you will start your nutrition and dietetics professional placements at an earlier stage, with placements occurring in the second, third and fourth years of the degree.

You will experience more than 1,000 hours of supervised professional practice in a variety of settings including hospitals, community health businesses and food service settings across NSW and interstate. You will spend a period of time in one of the rural health centres in the University's Department of Rural Health, based in the New England area or in the Central Coast Clinical Unit based in Gosford.

The strong emphasis on practical experience ensures that you are well equipped with the skills necessary to begin your career in nutrition and dietetics.
