Bachelor of Natural History Illustration (Honours)

Why study with us?

Natural history illustration with Honours at the University of Newcastle

Natural History Illustration (Honours)Do you already have an undergraduate degree in illustration, graphic design, science or fine art? Want to develop your creativity and engage with the Australian environment? Offered through the Faculty of Science and Information Technology, the Bachelor of Natural History Illustration (Honours) allows you to pursue your interest in illustration without needing to undertake another three year degree.

With increasing competition in all sectors of employment, students who graduate with an Honours degree have a distinct advantage. It is often considered by employers as an added skill and has been used by previous graduates to pursue higher positions and salaries. You can develop and carry out research on a topic of interest, potentially leading to further academic study such as a research degree.

The Bachelor of Natural History Illustration (Honours) is a one year full-time (or equivalent part-time) degree designed to encourage creative, innovative and scientific approaches to the visual interpretation of the natural world.

Natural history illustrators are employed or work freelance in publishing, display and exhibition fields in science institutions, galleries, museums, libraries and botanic and zoological gardens.

For more detailed program information about the natural history illustration Honours degree, please refer to the handbook.
