Offered through the Faculty of Science and Information Technology, the Bachelor of Information Technology (Honours) allows you to further develop your specific areas of interest in information technology and is a pathway into research higher degree study.

This Honours degree is mainly research-based. You will learn the formal research methodologies and techniques used in the discipline through coursework, and will apply these to original research work within the field of IT. In the end you will have completed a research based thesis that describes your original research contribution in an area of IT.

The University of Newcastle is a leader in research. Our information technology academics are engaged in a variety of research projects, many of which are in collaboration with researchers across the world including France, China, Singapore, Sri Lanka, the UK and the US. You have the opportunity to be involved with research at the forefront of your field.

Career opportunities include interactive web developers, analyst programmers, business analysts, digital entertainment developers and project managers. Many graduates of this Honours degree may go into academic and research careers.

This one year full-time (or equivalent part-time) degree provides an extension to the Bachelor of Information Technology and is offered at the Newcastle (Callaghan) and Central Coast (Ourimbah) campuses. Some coursework may require attendance at Newcastle campus.

You usually apply for Honours in the final year of your undergraduate degree. To be accepted for entry you must have successfully completed a Bachelor of Information Technology or equivalent with a credit grade point average (GPA).

  • Faculty of Science and Information Technology (FSCIT) End on Honours Application form.
