If you have a passion for solving the environmental problems that face our society then the Bachelor of Environmental Science and Management is for you. Environmental sciences at The University of Newcastle debuted in the top 200 in the 2014 QS World subject rankings*.

The expanding human population and growing strain on the earth's natural resources have resulted in a number of critical environmental issues.

Offered through the Faculty of Science and Information Technology, a degree in environmental science and management will help you understand the complex nature of environmental issues such as climate change, human impacts, the biodiversity crisis and animal conservation.

When you study environmental science and management at the University of Newcastle, you will have access to a range of different environments. From mining to wetlands, the Hunter region offers real environmental diversity and provides the perfect opportunity for you to gain practical experience out in the field.

In addition to the diverse practical insights offered by our region, you also have much to learn from our academic team. The teaching staff leading the environmental science and management program are actively involved in research. We are leading the world on research into amphibian protection which is helping to save species on the brink of extinction. Our researchers are involved in the Lazarus Project which has developed technology that can bring back extinct species such as the Gastric Brooding Frog and was included in TIME Magazine's Top 25 Best Inventions for 2013. These and other critical research findings are fed directly into the teaching program so you will be kept up to date with the latest research techniques and discoveries.
