Bachelor of Design (Architecture)

Why study with us?

Design (Architecture) StudentArchitecture at the University of Newcastle

Architecture is a creative and exciting profession that combines technology, ecology, philosophy, art and science to solve the problems of the built environment.

The Bachelor of Design (Architecture) at the University of Newcastle is delivered in a creative and innovative environment. Our award-winning architecture design studio gives you access to world-class facilities and our teachers are internationally recognised for their expertise in teaching practice and research.

The Bachelor of Design (Architecture) is a pre-professional qualification which is normally followed by the Master of Architecture. The completion of both programs enables graduates to enter the architecture profession.

With an architecture degree from the University of Newcastle you will be highly sought after by architecture practices within Australia and throughout the world. The majority of our students are offered jobs within four months of graduating.

Be Mentored by Top Australian Architects

When you study with us, you will be inspired by innovative teachers, such as our Australian Institute of Architects Gold Medal winning resident architects, who are recognised internationally in their field.

We Produce Award Winning Graduates

We produced the most outstanding 2013 architecture graduates in NSW, Chris Mullaney, who won the NSW Government Architects Registration Board's Architects Medallion, Anthony Parsons who won the NSW Design Medal and Angus Vinden who won the First Degree Design Prize. In the past four years, our graduates have received six NSW RAIA design medals and commendations. Take a look at our student's work and you'll understand why.

We also received both commendations in the Australian Bluescope Glenn Murcutt prize with four of the 13 students selected to be part of the competitive 2014 Architecture Student Biennale traveling exhibition.

Student Community

We have a thriving student community with groups and activities that both compliment your study and make for a great university experience. The Student Organised Network for Architecture (SONA) is the official student body of the Australian Institute of Architects. They organise national, state and local events that provide opportunities for students to collaborate with each other as well as professional designers. Check out our Masters students' blog to gain insight into their experience.
