The University of Newcastle (UON) takes all allegations of misconduct seriously – including allegations of sexual assault and harassment – and will not tolerate behaviour that compromises the safety and wellbeing of staff or students.
Staff have an important role to play in ensuring UON is a safe and supportive place to work and study. Detailed information about what to do in an instance of sexual misconduct is available for students and staff.
If you have been impacted by sexually based assault or harassment, or someone has disclosed to you that they have been, there is important information and advice available.
Sexual misconduct is a term used to describe any sexually based assault and/or harassment. It includes behaviour that is not consensual, is threatening, intimidating or coercive. This includes but is not limited to; sexual assault, sexual harassment, stalking, voyeurism and/or intimidation.
The NSW government defines sexual assault as any unwanted behaviour of a sexual nature to which you have not agreed or consented. This behaviour may cause you to feel uncomfortable, intimidated or afraid.
