Healthy UoN

As part of our Healthy UON program, a range of activities and services are available for staff that encourage positive physical, workplace, spiritual and mental health.

Healthy UON presents...

Over the next few months we will be rolling out well-being tasters to introduce you to the well-being concept and which will allow you to see what is involved in different programs. These classes are free to staff.

The Introductory Series - Nov/Dec 2014

Introduction to Buddhist Meditation - Each Tuesday from 11 November - 8 December

Introduction to Mindfulness Meditation - Each Tuesday from 11 November until shutdown

Preparing for Pregnancy - Tuesday 11 November

Time:12 – 1pm

Venue: HB15 at Callaghan and streamed live to Ourimbah in room EXSA102

A brief talk on how to best prepare for pregnancy and the pros and cons of all the supplements available. A summary of products available to aid conception and the benefit herbal mixes can provide to help conception. Prizes and giveaways on the day!

Dealing with Menopause - Wednesday 3 December

Time: 12 – 1pm

Venue: GP101 at Callaghan and streamed live to EXSA102 at Ourimbah

This workshop will advise on how to treat symptoms of menopause such as hot flushes with herbal products and prescription options available. Discussions will take place around other health concerns associated with menopause and how to treat/ prevent.

Workshop: Empowering Relationships

This seminar explores the meaning of intimacy and its natural
cycles. Learn to become more aware, and nurture the self, to handle emotions more effectively, and to appreciate the educational role all emotions play in our life. We look at ways to raise the vibration of our relationships, and ourselves engendering deeper respect and pulling from each other more love, togetherness, happiness and peace.

Date: Each Thursday from 20th November  until 11th December

Time: 5:30 – 6:30pm

Location: DT103

Cost: $20 per person each week

About the program

Healthy UoN is a University of Newcastle program that boosts the physical, social and psychological health and wellbeing of our community by promoting healthy learning, working and living environments.

This program creates a platform to coordinate and to consolidate our health, safety and wellbeing initiatives and helps identify areas where we can improve.

Healthy UoN initiatives are guided by a steering group and informed by the World Health Organisation Healthy Universities Framework.

Working parties have been established to focus on the priority areas of:

  • organisational health
  • psychological health
  • health promotion
  • research and evaluation
