Electives
What are Electives?
Electives are courses that you can choose yourself. These can be from other subject areas.
How many electives can I undertake & at what level should they be?
This depends on your program and can vary. There is a limit to how many electives you can complete. If you are in your first year of your program, you should generally be looking at first year electives ie. a course that includes a 1000 code (for example - ACFI1001).
Check your online program handbook for more information. Also, look for your Program Enrolment Checklist (PEC) in the Program Handbook.
The PEC is a snapshot of your program requirements. Every program has a PEC.
How should I choose my electives?
You can use electives to extend and complement your core studies with more courses in the same field of study or you can choose elective courses simply because they might be of interest to you.
It may be possible to choose electives from subject areas listed below.
What courses can I study online?
For further information on course that you can study online, please visit our Online Electives page.
How do I find out if I can enrol in a course I like?
Not all courses will be suitable as electives. Some courses are restricted (eg. LAWS courses are for students in law degrees) or some courses require assumed knowledge (eg. need other course/s completed before you can enrol). It is a good idea to check the assumed knowledge section to make sure that you have the right background to be successful.
To find out if you can enrol in a particular course, click on the course, scroll down the page until you see the 'Assumed Knowledge' or 'Requisite' heading. This section will tell you whether you have the prior knowledge required and / or whether enrolment into the course is restricted. Click on the following to see courses offered in each subject area.
