This course draws upon contemporary methods of Biblical studies in an attempt to draw upon biblical scholarship to make meaning out of the Bible. The course examines major themes found in both the Old and New Testament (the Hebrew and Christian Scriptures) as well as sacred texts from other religious traditions.

Objectives Upon completion of this course students will be expected to:
1. Examine and show familiarity with the major divisions and themes of the Bible.
2. Demonstrate skills in Biblical interpretation.
3. Demonstrate skill in Biblical exegesis.
4. Demonstrate an understanding of the 'Law and the Prophets'.
5. Demonstrate an understanding of the New Testament, especially the Synoptic Gospels and Pauline literature.
Content Themes will include:
1. The Bible as the Word of God in human words.
2. The nature and significance of the Old Testament especially The Torah and the Prophets.
3. The nature and significance of the New Testament especially the Synoptic Gospels, as well as, selected Pauline letters.
4. The religious truth of the Bible as opposed to the scientific and historical truth.
5. Interpreting the Bible.
6. Recent scholarship in methods of Biblical exegesis.
