This unit deals with mission theology for Christian educators and the processes and understandings involved in developing such theology appropriate for schools or school systems. It gives special attention to the educational context and the demands this places on educators working to carry out the Church's mission through the ministry of education.
| Objectives | Upon completion of this course students will be expected to: - Demonstrate an understanding of the major movements shaping the context in which they work; appreciate contemporary models of mission and how and why they have evolved; - Articulate the understandings and demonstrate the skills needed to construct a theology of mission suited to their ministry in education; - Articulate the major elements of the Church's emerging vision in regard to mission and evangelisation and its scriptural foundation. |

| Content | Elements of theological reflection - culture, narrative and human experience; context in particular the impact of globalization, secularization and pluralization on society; befriending scripture and tradition. Skills of analysis and synthesis. Particular attention is given to Jesus' teaching on the Kingdom of God, mission in the Acts of the Apostles, and recent developments in official Church teaching about mission. | ||||
