This course will offer a detailed study of school religious education as it contributes to the Church's mission. It aims for a deepened understanding of ecclesiology, missiology and the Scriptures and an expanded appreciation of religious education.

Objectives Upon completion of this course students will be expected to:
- Demonstrate Confidence and skills in using Scripture as foundational in doing theology and appreciating the missional nature of key New Testament writings
- Examine and discuss their understanding of the Church as mystery and appreciation of how ecclesial models can assist those engaged in the ministry of Religious Education
- Demonstrate an awareness that evangelisation is multi-faceted and therefore Religious Education is also multi-faceted
- Display an enhanced capacity to articulate a personally held theology of Religious Education.
Content The main themes covered include:
- understanding theology as a work of faith;
- Key elements of theology: experience, scripture, tradition, reflection, articulation, involvement;
- The Church's mission and the role of the Religious Educator;
- Official Catholic sources for a theology of Religious Education and Religious Education as evangelisation.

Assumed Knowledge Generally students will have a first degree as teachers in the ministry of Catholic school education, however the course is open to others interested in the religious education more broadly. It is preferable that this course will follow THEO1040 Introduction to Theology and Introduction.
