Upon completion of this course, students will be expected to:
1. Demonstrate how to reflect on and work with, the traditional and contemporary understandings of spirituality.
2. Articulate an understanding of approaches and practices that enable Christian spiritual growth and contemplation.
3. Demonstrate how to approach spirituality in a systematic way, with an awareness of the key issues and methodology of contemporary spirituality.
4. Show that Christian Spirituality and contemplation leads to an active life, with particular reference to morality, practice of justice and compassion.
5. Define pastoral care as understood by the church
6. Discern the stages of growth and faith development in individuals
7. Demonstrate an understanding of pastoral practices that allow spiritual nourishment of those in need with reference to humour, forgiveness, hope and justice.

It is expected that students will contribute to online discussions as a part of the assessment regime of the course. A selected bibliography featuring both classic and contemporary spiritual texts, and contemporary critical material will be provided for this unit.
