This course contributes to the development of participants' teaching practice through activities that focus on practical and professional approaches to student learning. It aims to provide opportunities to develop a teaching portfolio and to experience peer observation and feedback of teaching.

Objectives On successful completion of this course participants should be able to:
1. Examine current issues and practice in higher education;
2. Evaluate a variety of teaching strategies and their potential influence on student learning;
3. Apply a variety of strategies to critically evaluate teaching and student learning;
4. Apply technical, educational and ethical criteria to reflect upon and improve teaching practice; and
5. Prepare a teaching portfolio, including input from peer evaluation, that links philosophy, practice and teaching performance.
Content The following topics are indicative of content that may be covered during the two full day classes and workshops in TEHE6010.
1. Coherent course design (including aims and learning outcomes, assessment criteria, assessment tasks, learning activities, alignment and CTS requirements)
2. Large group teaching
3. Small group teaching
4. Developing student group work
5. Teaching practice session (including peer observation and feedback)
6. Reflective practice and the development of a teaching portfolio
7. Evaluation of courses and teaching
