This course focuses on preparing students for a career in social work including job application and continuing professional education. Students research an aspect of social work practice of choice and present this to a professional audience. Students participate in workshops preparing them for employment and specialised practice areas.

Objectives This is the final course in the social work stream and has as its objective the preparation of students ready for professional practice. Specifically, students will demonstrate:

1. Effective use of written and oral skills to communicate knowledge and competence in a field of practice to professional peers.
2. Ability to write a professional paper that presents analysis and argument of a particular perspective and is appropriate to the target audience.
3. Capacity to work and actively participate in teams to achieve complex practice tasks, negotiate differences of opinion within the working group and take a range of group task and maintenance roles.
4. The ability to apply social work knowledge, theory, research, and ethics to analysis and decision making in social work practice.
5. Understanding of the relationship between research and practice, and ability to draw on research to evaluate practice in the interests of empowerment, advocacy and change.
Content * Career planning including continuing professional education, job application and workshops in specialised areas of practice.
* Each student undertakes research into a specialised area of social work practice and presents this to a professional audience.
* Students organise and present a conference for social work students and practitioners.

Transition Students who have successfully completed SWRK4100B are not eligible to enrol in SWRK4002.
