Description

Students undertake supervised face-to-face clinical experience with adult speech pathology caseloads. Clinical experience placements are usually in speech pathology student units either in community/health or on-campus settings, and attendance for up to three days (8.00am - 5pm) each week may be required for the period allocated (and typically includes attendance outside the semester). Tutorials will be provided on-campus and online to facilitate transferability and integration of academic and clinical knowledge.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course students will be able to:

1. Demonstrate progress to an intermediate level of across all units of COMPASS®.

2. Provision of clinical management to adults with communication and swallowing needs using evidence based, culturally responsive and ethical practice.

3. Use professional verbal and written communication.

4. Demonstrate professional and ethical behaviour appropriate to the clinical placement setting.

5. Demonstrate reflective practice and and critical thinking.


Content

This course provides the opportunity for students to learn through clinical practice experience with primarily adult clinical populations (typically in health settings).

The student is supervised by a qualified speech pathologist.

The student has the opportunity to observe and work directly with adults with a range of communication and swallowing needs. 

Students will be engaged in the planning and delivery of ethical and evidence-based services for assessment and intervention and have the opportunity to participate in a range of service delivery/case management models


Review of Progress

This course is a compulsory program requirement and is monitored for academic progress purposes. The course must be completed to progress in the program or meet other program requirements.

Failure or withdrawal from this course will result in students being considered under the Student Academic Progress Procedure.


Requisite

Students must have successfully completed SPTH2080 before enrolling in SPTH3080 and be active in the Bachelor of Speech Pathology (Honours) [12318]
