Description
This course addresses school-aged language and literacy (children and adolescents) at an advanced level, including typical development, assessment, analysis, diagnosis and intervention within the World Health Organization's International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) and evidence-based practice (EBP). Speech Pathology assessment, intervention and technology for hearing across the lifespan. Also considers the impact of hearing on Australian Indigenous peoples.

Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the course students will be able to:
1. Describe etiological factors involved in literacy and language disability in school-aged children, and in hearing loss.
2. Analyse and interpret comprehensive language, literacy and hearing assessments.
3. Report findings from comprehensive language, literacy and hearing assessments.
4. Identify gaps in comprehensive language, literacy and hearing assessments.
5. Develop comprehensive and detailed plans for language and literacy intervention.
6. Identify and discuss hearing habilitation and rehabilitation issues and methods.

This course is only available to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Speech Pathology (Honours) [12318].
