This course will examine key concepts and theories in the field of social policy. These perspectives will be assessed against a backdrop of social justice, social inequality, and the spectre of economic liberalism. The course will also consider the effects of diminishing state responsibility in the area of social welfare and community services.

Objectives
1. To introduce students to the issues involved in social justice, obligation and welfare.
2. To develop skills of argument analysis and critique through enhanced capabilities in oral and written forms of communication.
3. To develop tools of research inquiry and evaluation and the capacity to present conclusions in a clear and concise manner.
