Minor Thesis

Designed for students with a distinction grade average in 80 units of the courses for Coursework Master of Social Science degree. It enables them to pursue a minor thesis option for the last 40 units of the degree. Students are expected to complete a 15,000-20,000 word minor thesis on a topic selected in consultation with a nominated supervisor from the School of Social Sciences. The course can be undertaken full-time over one semester or part-time over two semesters.

ObjectivesAs demonstrated by successful completion of the thesis, students should:
1. acquire the scholarly skills and self-confidence to conceptualise, research and compose a substantive piece of social science research;
2. gain contextualised understanding of advanced approaches to social science studies;
3. develop research and reflective skills relevant to advanced study in the social sciences;
4. develop written and oral communication skills appropriate for a professional and scholarly environment.
ContentThe coursework thesis shall consist of the preparation of a 15,000-20,000 word thesis on a selected topic in social sciences under the supervision of a full-time lecturer. Chapter drafts will be due throughout the semester.
