Upon the completion of this course, students will be expected to demonstrate:
1. general understanding of the global and national context in which Australian governments on a state and federal level have developed policies for the governance of Australia's Indigenous peoples;
2. an understanding of the philosophies and viewpoints underpinning the development of the major forms of policy formulations;
3. an appreciation of the ways in which historic and geographic factors produced regional differences in outcomes of the relationship between Indigenous people with the state;
4. an awareness of the ways in which these policies impact on Indigenous communities and the views held by Indigenous people on government policy and their relationship with other Australians;
5. an awareness of the role Indigenous people and their leaders have taken in exposing racialised injustices and fighting for social justice for their communities;
6. analytic skills and written communication skills appropriate to second-year undergraduate level.

2. Racialised nature of policy formation and implementation;
3. Impact of policy formation and implementation upon Indigenous Australians.
