What is religion? How should it be studied? This course examines key religious categories such as ritual, mysticism, the sacred and transcendence through prominent research methods in religious studies such as social-anthropology, psychology, phenomenology, and theology. It therefore provides the basis for higher academic reflection upon diverse religious traditions as well as preparing students for more advanced study and research.
| Objectives | Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Critically analyse religious categories such as ritual, mysticism, the sacred and transcendence 2. Employ advanced research methods in the study of diverse religious phenomena 3. Demonstrate advanced writing, research and information technology skills appropriate to theology and religious studies. |
