This course provides an introduction to the principal features of the world's major religions through reference to key events, characters, beliefs and related phenomena. With regard to each tradition, there will be a focus on both historical and contemporary events relevant to the understanding of religion today.

Objectives Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the key events, characters and beliefs of the religions being studied
2. Critically analyse key developments within religious traditions and their relevance for today
3. Employ investigative methodologies appropriate to the study of religion
4. Demonstrate research, writing and information literacy skills relevant to theology religious studies
Content The course introduces students to the world’s major religious traditions.
Replacing Course(s) IRES3120
Transition Students who have previously completed IRES3120 will not be permitted to enrol in RELI1010. Other first-year and upper-level options are available for these students.
