This course is not part of an APAC accredited sequence. This course covers a broad range of psychological interviewing and assessment skills and measures. Course skills are primarily designed in relation to mental health and allied health fields. Students will learn how to select and/or develop appropriate tools for capturing desired data, within an ethical framework. A variety of interviewing, survey and other methods will be reviewed and practiced. Emphasis will be placed on the scientific analysis of interview and other assessment data, including the limitations of each measure.

Objectives 1. Learn interviewing skills and procedures for health and mental health applications
2. Learn motivational interviewing skills
3. Understand the objectives and psychometric principals of psychological assessment
4. Develop expertise in selecting assessment tools
5. Gain experience using various types of health/mental health psychological assessment
6. Accurately interpret results from interviewing and other assessments
Content Students will learn how to choose appropriate and psychometrically sound measures for various applied psychology contexts. They will learn some basic statistical procedures for evaluating test outcomes. Students will practice various interviewing and testing procedures, covering a wide range to topics/factors, to gain expertise in testing application and evaluation.
