Who am I? Why do I do what I do? Personality and social psychology offer contrasting but complementary answers to these questions. The course deals with issues in social psychology such as attitudes, the self, social influence, and group processes. Students also examine approaches to personality that have been influential in terms of theory, methodology and practical applications in clinical and occupational settings. Topics covered may include the trait, Freudian, Humanist, and social cognitive approaches to personality.

Objectives
On the successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

1. Recall and understand key knowledge about classic and contemporary theories and evidence in personality and social psychology.
2. Report research in the field of personality and social psychology in a clear and concise manner using a professional writing style.
3. Undertake a basic, critical analysis of theory and evidence in personality and social psychology.
Content
PSYC2600 is made up of two strands. The first, social psychology, will examine issues such as attitudes, the self, social influence, intragroup processes, and intergroup behaviour.
The second strand will examine approaches to personality that have been influential in terms of theory, methodology and practical applications in clinical and occupational settings.
Topics covered will include the trait, Freudian, Behaviorist, Humanist, social cognitive, and biological approaches to personality.
The course forms part of the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council's accredited sequence.
