Physiotherapy clinical practice in which students integrate theory and practical skills in the management of patients in a health care setting under supervision. This course involves full-time clinical practice and the management of a clinical case load. This placement will occur in one of the following clinical areas: acute/cardiopulmonary, rehabilitation/neurology, musculoskeletal, community practice or integrated general.
This course is Compulsory Program Component and students must pass in order to progress in the Bachelor of Physiotherapy program.
ObjectivesThis placement will occur in one of the following physiotherapy clinical areas: acute/cardiopulmonary, rehabilitation/neurology, musculoskeletal, community practice or integrated general. These objectives are to be applied to the relevant clinical placement area. As a result of successfully completing this course, students should be able to: 1. competently clinically practise in the relevant physiotherapy clinical placement area across the lifespan and from acute to chronic contexts; 2. take an appropriate history and perform a proficient physical examination of a patient in the relevant physiotherapy clinical placement area; 3. correctly interpret the clinical examination findings; 4. select and safely apply an appropriate evidence-based intervention for a patient in the relevant physiotherapy clinical placement area; 5. select and apply appropriate outcome measures and adapt or progress management on the basis of outcomes; 6. effectively employ preventive and educational strategies; 7. apply skills in clinical reasoning in conducting the clinical examination and making clinical decisions in the relevant physiotherapy clinical placement area; 8. communicate and collaborate effectively with patients, care givers and other members of the multiprofessional health care team for optimal total care of the patient; 9. demonstrate an awareness of ethical and cultural issues in the the relevant physiotherapy clinical placement area; 10. demonstrate professionalism and an understanding of the role of the physiotherapistin the relevant physiotherapy clinical placement area. 11. demonstrate all the competency standards expected of a competent entry-level physiotherapy practitioner. | |||
ContentThis placement will occur in one of the following physiotherapy clinical areas: acute/cardiopulmonary, rehabilitation/neurology, musculoskeletal, community practice or integrated general. Course content is to be applied to the relevant physiotherapy clinical placement area. For each physiotherapy clinical placement course content will include: " supervised clinical practice experience in the relevant physiotherapy clinical placement area " clinical application of skills in history taking in the relevant physiotherapy clinical placement area " clinical application of physical examination skills in the relevant physiotherapy clinical placement area " clinical application of intervention skills in the relevant physiotherapy clinical placement area , including treatment modification and progression " clinical application of clinical reasoning skills, including making appropriate assessment and management decisions " clinical application of oral and non-verbal communication skills " clinical application of written communication skills, including documentation of patient data " direct experience working in a health care team in the relevant physiotherapy clinical placement area and contributing to the team " the role of the physiotherapist in the relevant physiotherapy clinical placement area " clinical application of skills in safe and evidence-based physiotherapy practice in the relevant clinical placement area " skills in self review and peer review of clinical performance " health professional behaviour and responsibilities. | |||
