Develops and applies the knowledge gained in Pharmaceutics 1 and 2 to clinical practice. Students will be introduced to advanced pharmaceutical compounding techniques, the pharmaceutics of formulations used in clinical practices and the design and development of vaccines. The design and formulation of dosage forms for veterinary practice will be introduced to the student. The clinical application of the stability and incompatibilities of parenteral formulations will be discussed and expanded upon in this course. Students will apply the principles of pharmaceutics learnt previously in the formulation of personal care products, topical formulations and parenteral formulations.
ObjectivesAt the end of the course students should: 1. Describe the pharmaceutical principles behind veterinarian, vaccine, and parenteral formulations 2. Apply the principles of the pharmaceutical sciences to advanced extemporaneous dispensing techniques 3. Describe the pharmaceutical principles behind the design and development of common topical formulations 4. Use advanced pharmaceutical principles to help avoid drug interactions and incompatibilities, in particular for intravenous formulations 5. Describe the pharmaceutical principles behind formulations and therapeutic devices used in clinical practice | ||||
