This course includes a series of seminars on professional issues including health promotion, falls prevention, the podiatry professional association and registration and on specialist areas of practice. The aim is to ensure students knowledge of the podiatry profession and opportunities in both the private and public health sectors. This course also provides students with advanced seminars on topics of particular and current professional relevance.
| Objectives | EVIDENCE BASED PRACTICE MODULE 1. Demonstrate a sound theoretical knowledge of the process of establishing and maintaining evidence-based practice within a successful business model 2. Explain the importance of health promotion and education in improving overall health and well-being within the community 3. Construct auditing procedures to ensure ethical evidence based practice is maintained within the work environment PRACTICE MANAGEMENT MODULE 4. Apply and document principles of business and administrative management as they relate to podiatry practice 5. Describe relevant contracts of employment, tax legislation health and safety and medicolegal insurance 6. Describe correct techniques of information management, appointment keeping and basic practice management requirements 7. Know the principles of successful marketing and utilise marketing strategies effectively 8. Describe and discuss the basic principles of professional growth and forecasting 9. Describe principles of supply purchase and maintenance of podiatric clinical equipment PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE MODULE 10. Dscribe the role of registration boards in ensuring professional standards 11. Appreciate the importance of professional associations and bodies to the practitioner and the profession 12. Have a working knowledge of contractual agreements and practitioner obligations for service to clients through the Department of Veterans Affairs, Medicare (including Enhanced Primary Care scheme) , private health insurers and Workers Compensation COMMUNICATION AND PROFESSIONAL BEHAVIOUR MODULE 13. Discuss the diverse roles of podiatry within the community and be aware of the demands upon practitioners fulfilling these positions 14. Be familiar with concepts of leadership and management styles 15. Develop skills in intra and inter professional communication and networking 16. Develop skills in conflict resolution and complaint handling |
