This course examines six key areas associated with effective OHS management. These areas are: disaster/ emergency planning and preparedness; employment relations; theories & systems of management & organisational behaviour; OHS training & competencies;contemporary OHS priorities; measuring OHS performance.

Objectives

By the end of the course students will be able to:
(i) Identify and evaluate the impacts of various types of disasters and emergencies as they apply to workplaces and the wider community;
(ii) Understand the need for emergency preparedness contingencies and associated regulatory obligations;
(iii) Identify and evaluate the impacts of Employment Relations systems in the context of OHS;
(iv) Understand a broad range of management theories and viewpoints;
(v) Understand the influence of the political, social, regulatory and business environment in which the organisation operates has on the type and effectiveness of the OHS management system adopted;
(vi) Understand the management issues and legislative obligations associated with OHS training and competencies;
(vii) Be familiar with a broad range of contemporary national and international OHS issues and priorities;
(viii) Explain the influence of performance measures on improving OHS outcomes.
