The course is only offered externally in Singapore.
Focuses on experiential learning and problem based learning (pbl) techniques. Students will gain knowledge of a wide variety of occupational health and safety problems through real time industrial visits, videos of industrial visits and a range of pbl exercises covering major occupational groups and hazards.

Objectives On completion of the course, students will be able to:
1. Discuss the OHS concerns of major occupations and industries;
2. Assess the scope of OHS problems encountered in a wide range of work settings;
3. Define and pursue the information required in order to resolve such OHS problems;
4. Devise strategies for the management of OHS problems.
Content Students will work individually or in small groups to examine occupational health and safety problems selected from a wide range of industries (eg, agriculture, manufacturing, electronics, construction, health industry, office work) and develop strategies for their resolution. Workplace visits will provide opportunities for direct observation of work practices, identification of hazards present and an assessment of the adequacy of risk management strategies employed.

Essays / Written Assignments "Report on a problem based learning exercise". This assignment is designed to assess the student's ability to analyse a specific OHS problem and devise solutions appropriate to the workplace. Meets course objectives 1,2 3 & 4
Examination: Formal A two hour examination.
The examination will present the student with work scenarios and will assess the student's ability to identify hazards, assess the potential risks to workers and advise on engineering and administrative controls for risk elimination or minimisation. Meets course objectives 2,3 & 4
Reports "Worksite visit report".
This assignment is designed to assess the student's knowledge of potential OHS problems in an industry and the student's assessment of the adequacy of risk management strategies employed. Meets course objectives 1,2 & 4
