Description

This course introduces the student to possible occupational issues associated with the motor and process abilities of a person. This includes the Person Environment Occupation [PEO] relationship. The student will study the effects of neurological conditions on motor and processing abilities through case (or client) based scenarios [CBL]. The course develops student knowledge and application of assessments and interventions relevant to motor and processing abilities within the occupational therapy process based on evidence based practice principles.

Learning Outcomes

1. Demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of how neurological conditions effect occupational issues.

2. Link knowledge in neurological conditions to the occupational therapy process in the context of professional practice.

3. Analyse how neurological conditions affect a persons motor and processing abilities in their daily occupations including the effect on person- environment occupation [PEO].

4. Demonstrate competence in assessment skills.

5. Demonstrate the ability to develop client-centeredness while considering occupational issues.

6. Synthesise and apply this knowledge to the application of the occupational therapy process for people with neurological conditions.

7. Demonstrate their ability to apply and reflect on the professional reasoning and behaviours.

Content

  1. The definition and exploration of motor and processing skills.
  2. The effect of neurological conditions on occupational issues.
  3. The assessment and occupational therapy interventions for motor and processing skills applied to an individual.
  4. The application of evidenced-based occupational therapy processes using a case based approach [CBL].

Requisites

This course is only available to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours) program. Pre-requisite - successful completion of HUBS2103.
