Course handbook
Description
This course brings together both personal and career development. It seeks to provide the learner with foundations for change and engage reflective practice in order to lead change within the workplace. The course provides learners with an opportunity to use reflective practice and both leadership and change theories to critique and analyse a workplace issue and redevelop a strategy to enable evidence-based, meaningful and sustainable workplace change.

Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the course students will be able to:
1. Analyse the causes, theoretical approaches, and paradigm shift within that of change management;
2. Evaluate and apply change management approaches as a part of leading, managing and effectively improving outcomes in healthcare;
3. Explore and synthesise the important actions in relation to working with vulnerable persons from special needs groups within a change project. This may include Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians with a disability, CALD, diversity groups, LGBTIQ, Forgotten Australians / Care Leavers, youth, aged, homeless, veterans, rural and remote communities, and financially or socially disadvantaged;
4. Demonstrate reflective practice as a part of professional development as a healthcare leader;
5. Develop a change project plan relevant to implementing an outcome-focused and sustainable change in a diverse environment.
Content
The course adopts a problem based approach learning about:
- Theories, models and processes relating to change
- Utilising reflective practice as a means for analysis and improvement;
- Recognising the value of well constructed planning for effective change management; and
- Construct a proposal for change
Assumed knowledge
Foundations of healthcare knowledge, experience in healthcare environments, research fundamentals and reflective practice Principles of investigative approaches, concepts and theories relevant to practice, and contemporary health milieu issues. Academic reading and writing skills, ability to access and evaluate information from a variety of sources, skills in critical analysis, critical judgement, synthesis and evaluation. Ability to conceptualise practice.
