Leadership and Management in Practice

This course assists students to build on their knowledge of leadership/management, and to apply this knowledge to their workplace. The course comprises one module with several sections. The module has two related activities that enable concurrent learning and application of knowledge to the context of practice. The two assignments in the course provide each student with the opportunity to demonstrate his/her learning through a process of a situation analysis and review of relevant literature.
This is a mandatory course in the Master of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner) and Master of Applied Management(Nursing)Programs.
|Objectives||During this course, students will:
1.Identify the nature and variety of leadership/management issues in the context of health care delivery as well as in more general contexts
2.Research, critically analyse, understand and identify alternative strategies through which these issues might be addressed
3.Apply these strategies to leadership/management issues within the context of health care delivery
|Content||The course adopts a problem based approach to learning about:

|Assumed Knowledge||Foundations of nursing knowledge, nursing theory, legal and ethical issues, fundamentals of research, human bioscience, psychology, sociology related to practice.
Principles of investigative approaches in nursing, concepts and theories relevant to practice, contemporary nursing issues.
Academic reading and writing skills, ability to access and evaluate information from a variety of sources, skills in critical analysis, critical judgment, synthesis and evaluation.
Ability to conceptualise practice.
Demonstrated Australian Nursing Council competencies.
