This course will facilitate the examination of professional, social, political, economic, ethico-legal and spiritual issues associated with the care of aged people. Strategies directed towards the promotion of awareness of the needs of the older people experiencing the need for care and the enhancement of care of the aged will be explored.
ObjectivesDuring this course students will: 1. Critically analyse the care of the aged in relation to demographic trends in population ageing and related issues; 2. Critically analyse their own attitudes to ageing and relate these to common myths of ageing; 3. Examine the professional, social, political, economic, ethico-legal and spiritual milieu of acute care of older people in the context of their own practice; and 4. Critically analyse current aged care services and government priorities and initiatives related to the care of older people and their needs. | ||
