In this course the student will be required to develop higher order thinking skills involving identification of research problems, selection of research techniques, evaluation of a variety of data forms and critical analysis. They will be required to explore and develop skills in the application of research methods relevant to the research project they are undertaking. They will also be required to undertake an exploration of a research method other than that which is being used in their research project. The student will be required to present a seminar on the alternate research design.
| Objectives | Students who successfully complete this course will demonstrate: 1) The capacity to identify research problems; 2) The ability to select appropriate research techniques; 3) The capacity to devise and employ effective and creative strategies in problem solving; 4) The ability to communicate effectively using abstractions, theorisations and case study material including the ability to write effectively using a variety of appropriate styles. |

| Content | In this course the specific focus will be on the development of a research proposal. This includes the acquisition of the knowledge and skills necessary for the identification of research problems; the selection of research techniques; the evaluation of data forms; and the conduct of critical analyses. Students will be directed to participate in relevant short courses including the use of Endnote, STATA or N-Vivo offered through the Research Branch and Library Services. | ||||||
