This course will familiarise students with the diverse range of research methods relevant to the creative and performing arts. It will encompass an investigation of the philosophy and theories of knowledge creation to enable students to undertake research at an Honours level.

Objectives
At the successful completion of this course students will demonstrate:
1. awareness of the diverse range of research methods relevant to the Music and the arts.
2. written and oral communication skills appropriate to a professional scholarly environment
3. the ability to select and argue a justification for appropriate methods to underpin their individual research project
4. a high level of analytical skills and research preparation skills as evidenced through the identification and use of appropriate research sources
Content
This course will involve the critical analysis and evaluation of research methods relevant to music and the arts. Students will given access to relevant critical literature and a variety presentations, seminars and forums.
Transition
The introduction of this course poses no transitional problems to existing students in the music Honours program.

Assumed Knowledge
It is assumed that students entering the Bachelor of Music (Honours) program will have successfully completed a Bachelor of Music program (or equivalent), and attained an average credit grade in the major study relevant to their proposed Honours music specialisation.
