Researching Australian Music

This elective is designed to introduce the student to Australian Music from the earliest days of the colony to the present times. The course encompasses three main areas of learning: research, analysis and evaluation.

ObjectivesAt the conclusion of the semester, students will be required to demonstrate:
1. an understanding of developments in music in Australia
2. an understanding of the social and cultural context of Australian music over the last 200 years, and the wider, global context
3. analytical skills
4. research skills
Content1. Series of lectures on Australian Music and its context 1820-2005 encompassing historical and cultural information, as well as analysis of key works
2. Series of seminars presented by students facilitated by lecturer
